About The LEC
The Law Enforcement Council (LEC) is a non-profit organization managed by an Executive Director and Administrator and currently consists of nineteen police departments. The Council is supervised by a Board of Directors consisting of a President, Vice-President, Secretary and Treasurer, all of whom are elected annually from the membership. In addition to providing state-mandated recertification training for all sworn officers, we sponsor specialized course offerings including First Aid and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) for dispatchers, command and supervisory personnel, and Medical Response Technicians (MRT).
LEC assists in keeping member police departments informed on legislative issues and court decisions that affect their daily operations. We monitor federal and state grant programs and distribute advisories concerning the availability of such programs and assist member agencies in grant application development. Also, because the Council represents such a wide range of police departments (Resident Trooper agencies to city departments), we serve as a clearinghouse for questions and information about policy and procedures, labor relations issues, and special operational or administrative problems that they may be confronted with.
LEC assists member departments with their selection process by providing a multi-dimensional, job-related, regional entry written examination, physical agility testing and oral examinations where necessary. Developing and administering job-related promotional examinations for all ranks and positions within the police department is another aspect of our service.
LEC members also share specialized equipment such as a surveillance van; a spot check trailer which includes a generator, flood light, road signs, highway cones, and flares; and a Speed Monitoring Awareness Radar Trailer (SMART Machine), for deployment in areas where speeding is a problem. SMART has proven to be an effective public relations tool.
The Council holds meetings throughout the region to discuss relevant issues and other agenda matters.
